Home Care Package Cost and Fees at KA Aged Care

Use the following information to understand the costs and fees associated with your Home Care Package.

If you are eligible for a Home Care Package, it is important to understand the fees, government contributions, and how your budget works. This ensures you make the best choice for your care needs and finances.

The following section explains to you about the budget, what you get from the government, your contribution, and other detail.

Home Care Package Budget

Your Home Care Package budget includes:

    • Government contributions: Subsidies and any eligible supplements.
    • Your contributions: Basic daily fees, income-tested care fees (if applicable), and any additional agreed fees

These funds collectively cover your care services and package management costs.

Your Home Care Package budget outlines the total funds available for your care and services, as detailed in your care plan. Once you are fully onboarded with KA Aged Care, we will allocate your budget to cover the services and items you need as your trusted home care provider.

Government Contribution

The Australian Government contributes a different amount for each level of Home Care Package. The government subsidy for each package level is as follows:

Home Care Package Level Daily Government Subsidy Rate Fortnightly Government Contribution

Level 1

$29.28

$409.92

Level 2

$51.49

$720.86

Level 3

$112.07

$1,568.98

Level 4

$169.90

$2,378.60

as of 1 January 2025.

If you are required to pay an income-tested care fee, the government subsidy is reduced accordingly. The government pays its contribution directly to your chosen provider, and together, you determine the care and services that fit your package budget. These funds will not impact your pension, as they are not counted as income.

Understanding Your Contribution

KA Aged Care does not charge a Basic Daily Fee. However, some organisations may ask you to pay.

If so, the basic daily fee adds to the government subsidy, increasing the funds in your Home Care Package budget. Your contribution to your Home Care Package varies depending on your circumstances and may include the following fees:

Basic Daily Fee

The basic daily fee is a government-set amount that may be required from all Home Care Package recipients. It is calculated as a percentage (15.68% to 17.50%) of the single basic age pension, depending on your package level.

The basic daily fee by Home Care Package level is as follow:
Home Care Package Level
Daily Fee
Fortnightly Fee

Level 1

$11.72

$164.08

Level 2

$12.40

$173.60

Level 3

$12.75

$178.50

Level 4

$13.08

$183.12

as of 20 September 2024.

Income tested care fee

The income-tested care fee is an additional contribution based on your income, as determined by an assessment from Services Australia. Full pensioners and those earning up to $33,735.00 are exempt from this fee.

Depending on your income level, the fee can range up to $37.55 per day. This fee reduces the government subsidy for your Home Care Package and may change if your financial situation changes.

Utilize the Fee Estimator from My Aged Care to calculate your estimated Income tested fee.

Notes on Annual and lifetime caps

There are annual and lifetime caps that apply to the income tested care fee for home care. Once you reach a cap, you cannot be asked to pay any more in income tested care fees.

Annual and lifetime caps are indexed on 20 March and 20 September every year. The cap amounts that apply to you are the amounts that are current when you reach them, not those that were current when you entered care.

Any income tested care fee you pay while you are receiving home care will also be counted towards the annual and lifetime caps if you move into an aged care home.

Annual and lifetime caps limit how much you can pay in income-tested care fees.
Annual Cap:
    • Up to $6,834.77 per year for incomes between $33,735.00 and $65,020.80.
    • Up to $13,669.63 per year for incomes above $65,020.80.
Lifetime Cap:
      • Maximum of $82,018.15 as of 20 September 2024.

Caps are indexed every March and September. Fees paid for home care count toward these caps if you transition to aged care. As a reminder, full pensioners or those earning below $33,735.00 are exempt.

Other fees may apply for additional care and services that would not otherwise be covered by your Home Care Package budget.
